Serial Decoding - UPDATE

The new PicoScope beta release, 6.13, adds Modbus RTU and ASCII to its growing list of serial decoders. Modbus is used in industrial automation to communicate with programmable logic controllers (PLCs).

PicoScope 6 now supports a total of 18 serial protocols and is the only oscilloscope that can decode Modbus.

You can use PicoScope to decode data from a serial bus such as CAN bus. Unlike a conventional bus analyzer, PicoScope lets you see the high-resolution electrical waveform at the same time as the data. RS232/UART and SPI formats added to serial decoding mode

PicoScope for Education
— the easy way to teach and learn

The PicoScope Education Kit comes complete with PicoScope for Education — a version of our popular PicoScope 6 software. As well as all the features of PicoScope 6 — including oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, waveform generator, automated measurements and persistence display modes — PicoScope for Education also includes an experiments menu: select an experiment from the menu and PicoScope will automatically set up your oscilloscope and display detailed instructions which explain the purpose of the experiment, apparatus needed, method and expected results — allowing you to get started on the experiment with the minimum amount of effort and time. (You can also customise PicoScope for Education by adding your own experiments to the experiments menu.)

picoscope software

With PicoScope software you benefit from the familiar Windows interface and controls, making the software easy to learn and easy to use. The results from your experiments can be saved in a variety of formats including CSV and text, graphical formats such as PNG and GIF and in binary format as a MATLAB file. You can also print the results or copy and paste them into other applications.

PicoScope software is completely free so you can use you can use the software on as many PCs as you like, and free software updates can be downloaded from our website.

A software development kit is also provided. This contains software drivers and example code in various languages — the perfect tool for anyone wanting to develop their computer programming skills, or use the PicoScope Education Kit with their own applications.

All you need to start experimenting

The PicoScope Education Kit comes complete with all the apparatus you need to perform the following physics experiments:

Speed of sound
The speed of sound experiment uses two microphones to measure the speed of sound.

Faraday’s law
The Faraday’s law experiment demonstrates that the EMF induced in a conductor linked by a changing magnetic flux is proportional to the rate of change of the flux.

AC dynamo
The AC dynamo experiment builds on the results of the Faraday’s law experiment. Repeated pulses of EMF are induced in a coil by a rotating magnet, resulting in an AC voltage output.

The education kit can be used for many different experiments and educational projects. To get you started the PicoScope for Education software also includes integrated instructions and automatic setups for the following experiments:

  • Measuring the value of a capacitor
  • Serial data
  • Speed of a pulse along a cable
  • Acceleration due to gravity

The world-class kit for your classroom

The PicoScope Education Kit is a truly versatile educational tool. Supplied with a powerful USB oscilloscope and everything you need to get started, the education kit is your complete test and measurement lab. It can be used for many different experiments and projects. It is easy to use, yet includes many advanced features, making it ideal for students of all ages.
