Apart from the standard range of conductors generally used in electric
cables, Kalestead have developed superflexible versions for use on coiled
cables and many of these can be seen below.

Conductors are manufactured from high conductivity copper wire tested in accordance with BS4109. Although generally supplied as plain copper they are also available in tinned copper form. In many communication applications the use of tinsel conductors is preferred. Tinsel is manufactured from either single (simplex) or double (duplex) cadmium copper strip lapped on a terylene centre and grouped together as 4 ends, 6 ends etc.. This forms a superflexible conductor capable of 400,000 reciprocation without fracture. It is more suitable where termination is of a crimped type.

RANGE OF INSULATING AND SHEATHING MATERIALS

A range of Thermoplastic and Fluorocarbon insulating and sheathing materials is currently available to suit a wide variety of applications. These include:

  • PVC
  • Polypropylene
  • Polyurethane
  • FEP (Fluorinatedethylenepropylene)
  • PFA (Polyfluoroalkoxytetrafluorethylene)
  • TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer)

Where a specific property or performance is required we will be pleased to provide advice on the choice of suitable materials. Please do not hesitate to contact our Sales Department.
